This version of XP was designed for OEMs to create and deploy devices using the same drivers and being capable of running the same application software as XP Pro.
Windows Embedded Standard 2009
OEMs using WES 2009 utilize a software suite known as Embedded Studio to create a version of the operating system specific to their hardware. With over 12,000 individual components, designers can select only the components and functionality they need in order to create secure, reliable systems with a minimized storage footprint.
In addition to their own custom software, OEMs can also take advantage of familiar Windows software such as Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) and Windows Media Player 11 (WMP11), as well as Silverlight and support for System Center Configuration Manager, a service used to comprehensively assess, deploy and update deployed devices.
Taking advantage of unique capabilities like Embedded Enabling Features, allows the OS to consistently boot quickly using HORM (Hibernate Once Resume Many) and valuable data can be protected from accidental corruption using EWF (Enhanced Write Filtering) and FBWF (File Based Write Filter).
